Hi Chris,

To link to the WP Attachment page, go to Gallery Settings and set "Image caption style:" to "Caption (thumbs & captions link to WP Attachment Page)".

Yes, the PhotoSmash Extend add-on has a module that will create a new post for when images are uploaded, as you say, giving them their own pages. This is nice because you get comments and all the other goodies of having a Post. In the next version of PhotoSmash + PhotoSmash Extend, you'll also be able to set a Post Type for the new posts that get created, giving you even more possibilities! If you'd like my canned scoop on Extend, send me a note through the Contact page.

Cheers,

Hi Chris,

Commenting on pics is on my to-do list (it's a long list)...right now, the best you can do is send the user to the WP Attachment page when they click on the pic. They can comment there.

It's not what we need, but it's all we've got at the moment.

I really need a way to be able to comment on all of the pictures. Is there a way for this to be possible? Can I integrate some code in the plug in settings to make a blog to comment for each individual picture some how. Or make a layout with a comment section somehow?

Great plugin! Exactly what I needed! I love how the Gallery View Layout looks, but would like to not have the post overlay in the upper right corner of the thumbnails. Can I remove this without needing to do a custom template?

Ahhh my bad... I just figured it out.

When creating the custom field I was selecting the type as "Textbox", BUT I thought the numeric checkbox next to it was meant to allow the input of numbers in addition to, instead of just alphabet letters. I didn't realize that it meant only a numeric input. So it was working, just didn't have numeric data to display.

Thanks again.

I feel like I have the hang of this, but for some reason I can't get this to work. I want to display the users Twitter name under the image they've uploaded and for it to be a link to their Twitter page.

I've created a custom field named [twitter_name]. Which is displayed in the upload form.

Here's the code...

HTML Layout (no styling yet)

		[thumb_image]
		[twitter_name]

Wrapper (used from one of the other layouts)

[piclens]

[gallery_name] Gallery

[gallery]

So I just can't get the [twitter_name] to give an output at all. Any ideas? Am I just not understanding how it works?

Thanks for the help.

hi whinton! i got your email and will respond, but in case anyone else is picking up the thread...

i used a jquery plugin called galleriffic. http://www.twospy.com/galleriffic/index.html

and byron is right, it wasn't fun. but, using that plugin along with all of the functions that byron put into the layout editor for photosmash, including the wrapper and custom css functionality, i was finally able to get it working. the quick and dirty is this:

* ftp galleriffic up to your wordpress theme
* create a new page template for your galleries and include the call to jquery and galleriffic
* create a new photosmash layout:
- call both the thumb and the large div in the html layout, along with whatever other information you want, in my example i have a caption div with a ton of info in it
- in the wrapper section use all of the divs for galleriffic slideshows to let the jquery know what's where
- in the custom css section, style everything

i hope that at least made a little sense to anyone else trying this!

Hi Whinton,

Elizabethanne has done something like that with PhotoSmash here: http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/wedding-ideas/bouquets/

But my guess is that it wasn't easy. But it does look quite awesome. You might ping her and see if she had any pointers on how she did it.

Hi Delia,

It looks like you're displaying the gallery with the gallery_viewer layout. This might be selected in Gallery Settings or you might be calling it in your shortcode like layout='gallery_viewer'. Try switching to gallery_view_layout or Std_Widget or std. See which one of those is the best fit.

Hopefully that will fix it for you.

Hi Deli,

Sorry this has been such a trial!

1) You can edit your style.css to change the colors. If you need to override something that won't go away, you can add !important to the css rule...ex:

.photosmash_gallery {
background-color: #fff !important;
}

2) Can you post a link so I can take a look at that? Not sure what the problem would be.

3) I'll take a look if you can post a link.

4) Go to Gallery Settings...you should be able to choose one of the caption settings to fix that.

5) Unfortunately, no. You can view this in the file bwb-photosmash.php. Look for the function shortcodeGallery, the list of variables at the top are the list of things that can be added to the shortcodes.

6) As long as it's all one word, the single quotes or double quotes aren't needed. ex: no_form=true (is ok) no_form="true" (is ok) gallery_name=My gallery (not ok) gallery_name='My Gallery' (is ok).

Cheers,

Hi there, just trying to get your gallery up and running and feel like im the only one in the room who doesnt get it lol. Please excuse ingnorance in advance, ive spent most of today trying to get this up and running.. its now after midnight and im going a bit potty - and now I think im just making it worse the more I try and fix things.

So. Ive got the latest version of Wordpress, and now also Shadowbox via your link. I would like a simple gallery display with thumbnails running in rows. No links, no "add photos". When you click on the thumbnail it goes thru to the slideshow. Or when you click "view as slideshow".

Ive managed to upload photos to the WP media section then transfer over to my gallery.

1) What file do I modify to change the colors of the layout?

2) When I click my images they dont open the slideshow they just reload my page

3) When I click the slideshow link it opens shadowbox but is empty and says there are no images to show.

4) Ive found how to remove the "add photos" link, but how do I get rid of the text / file name above each pic? I just want little thumbnails with no text on them or above them. Currently I have ()

5) is there a list somewhere of all the shorthand options and what they control?

6) should they be written with = then a backtag? eg no_form='true'

Currently I have '[photosmash id=7 form=std piclens_true no_form=true]'

and now I have spread some of my confusion.. I shall go to bed! :P lol...

kind regards

Here's a quick try at it:

For the HTML Layout section:

[thumbnail]
[caption]

For the Wrapper section:

[gallery]

That pretty much tries to emulate the gallery shown in the Demo on this site. You can play around with the widths and heights that are hard coded in here to suit your needs. The 33% gets you 3 images on a row.

Hope that helps!
Byron

In the Layouts Editor, you can edit galery_viewer, gallery_view_layout etc and more importantly see the code used.

I learn from example, so I'd like to see the code used for "Standard Layout" but this option is not selectable. Does anyone have a copy of the Standard Layout code I could look at it in order to build my own layout with tiny changes from?

Never mind... I got it all cleaned up with the custom layout. :) But instructions on how to do the rating overlay like you have in the demo would be appreciated!

I looked at the demo here -- http://smashly.net/photosmash-galleries/photosmash-demo/

Can you give the layout and CC settings for that gallery? It's perfect and the captions link the way that I want. I'm going to look at the source and see if I can't hack it in the meantime... :)

Oh, and here's the link to where I am working on my gallery: http://www.bellingham.org/index.php/photo-contest

My gallery seems to be a bit off in that the captions are not centered under the photo, nor are the voting images when I have them active. I haven't touched the CSS, so why would it be off like this?

Also, is there a way I can fix that the caption links to the image? I want to show the caption, and it doesn't have to link to anything, but if it does, I just want the lightbox to open.

Thanks!
