Hi parampara,

The problem is that the File Upload Field on the form is missing the id="bwbps_uploadfile".

This has not been problem with PhotoSmash in the past. Is it possible that you've got a plugin or something else that has stripped the ID from the file field tag? If you've got something else running that does uploads or something, that might cause it. Other than that, I'm not sure what's causing the problem.

To get around this as a temporary patch, you might try going to Gallery Settings / Uploading tab and turn on "Allow 'no image' uploads:". That will avoid the validation. That's not a great solution, but it might work.

Cheers,
Byron

Hi there!
This great plugin would probably be just what I needed, only that I can't make it work: when I upload the image, I get a message: "Validation error, please select a file" - which I just did and pressed submit button... The uploader is on http://www.parampara.pl/imp/zdjecia-uzytkownikow/). Please, does anyone have an idea what to do about that?

It's possible, but it would take some work to pull it off. Unfortunately, I'm strung out on the iPhone app (which I'm quite excited about, btw).
If anyone works out the code to make it work, I'd be glad to add it to the core if I can.

I wonder if there is a way to give consumers Geocode as in admin panel.
Because only by typing the address is not exactly the intended image of the map.
And thus much easier for the user!

Ah...yeah. I forgot about that. The period idea is a good one. I don't have another solution right now. I need to see if I can set it up so that you can use HTML in the Add Photos text in the settings, that way you could just insert your image code that.

BTW, cool design!

It works, but in a weird way. I have to include the shortcode [photosmash] as well as link the image to make the image work like I want. Here is the page in question: http://doheroesexist.com/news/?page_id=187

If I don't include the shortcode, the upload form in thickbox comes up, but no buttons or text come up to choose a file to upload. I'm thinking of trying to "hide" it by making the "add photos" text a period for the time being (which I wouldn't have a problem with), but if any additional help could be provided as to why I have to include the shortcode along with linking the image to make it work, I'd be thankful.

Hi B,

Thanks! Glad you like PhotoSmash!

You should be able to put an image in there. Here would be an example:

<a href="TB_inline?height=390&width=545&inlineId=bwbps-formcont" onclick="bwbpsShowPhotoUpload(1, 556, '');" title="Smashly.net - Gallery Upload" class="thickbox"><img src='http://yoursite.com/image.jpg' alt='Upload Images' /></a>

You will need to find out what the normal image link would have in the bwbpsShowPhotoUpload(gal_id, post_id, form_pfx) in the onclick in the link. So if you view source on the page before you make any changes, you should be able to get that.

Then, for your shortcode, you'll need to add: no_form=true like: [photosmash id=## no_form=true]

Hope that helps,
Byron

I'm in the process of setting up my PhotoSmash gallery (GREAT plugin, btw!), and I'm curious to know if there's a way to link an image to the lightbox upload form.

For example, instead of the regular text "Add Photos", users would click on an image that would then bring them to the upload form where they would upload their photo. Is it possible? I've tried copying the link location from the text, but that doesn't work.

I also think that alt tagging images is very important. If nothing else, a checkbox to have the caption become the alt tag would work. It might be cool to have a custom field for "alt tage / description" - or maybe a way to add one word tags or something maybe.

I am looking at a couple of plugins that say they add tags to media - but I am not sure if they would cause a conflict with this plugin, or if they would even work with this plugin and the way it displays galleries.

Hi Jon,

Cool...I did miss that question...I think I've got a bug. Look in that field and see if it comes up with a class like bwb_reset. There's a js function that clears those.

If you do Extend, you don't have to do anything to your other work unless you've tweaked something that Extend relies on in PhotoSmash. It uses Layouts for creating the blog posts and for forming the Navigation block. So, unless you've changed layouts to work radically different from their normal operation, you should be fine. Extend is non-invasive to the regular plugin, but it does utilize a couple of the functions and relies on a hook or two.

You're welcome!

Nice Byron! I had thought about the tags and the PS extend, but I am afraid that not everyone will use tags so the div class='[my_custom_field]' seems to me to be the best option now...Will start to work on it right now!

By the way, about tags I sent a topic last week about tags not being saved after the first picture (http://smashly.net/community/topic/tag-not-saving), that you forgot to answer or the solution was obvious, but I still couldn't find a way to go around it...

Sorry, just one more question. To change to the PS Extend do I have to copy and paste my custom work or it works as an upgrade?

Thanks again for your time Byron.

Right off hand, you could use tags to accomplish this. Filtering functionality is in the PhotoSmash Extend extension. There is a module called extended navigation that lets you build a navigation block that can have a search box and/or tag drop downs. You can have multiple tag dropdowns that can work together (images have to be tagged with all the selected tags or optionally, only one tag). The search is actually pretty cool...only thing is that it doesn't search custom fields...only tags, captions, contributors, and maybe another field.

To do the jQuery you could build a layout that would let you put a custom field into the class on the div or li or td (whichever you're using to segregate your images...you'd want to hide/show the whole block, not just the image). To do this, you would: div class='[my_custom_field]'

Ideally you could put the tags in there, but I don't think I've got a code for just showing the tags unlinked. I'll add at some point since it makes good since.

My recommendation is to always use tags where possible since you get all the WordPress functionality behind them, in addition to the PhotoSmash functionality.

Once you've got your classes, I think you know how the jQuery would look. That would be pretty cool.

Hi Byron, I was wondering if has a way using custom fields to add classes to the images after a checkbox is checked, so it is possible using jquery later to filter the pictures.

Ex. on the upload form: if is an animal check here, if is a landscape check here, if is a bla bla bla check here.... This way people looking for landscapes wouldn't be bothered with other irrelevant images and vice-verse...

If you have any thoughts on the matter, I am all ears. Thanks for your time.

Hi Linda,

That should be fixed in version 0.5.08. Is that site using 0.5.08? I looked at the source and it is missing a closing tag for the anchor/href tags, which should have been fixed in that newest version.

Let me know if that's not the case. If it's not the case, then let me know which Caption Style is being used as there might be another bug.

Cheers,
Byron

Hi Byron. I am having some trouble with one of my clients gallery and I can't figure out what the problem is. My client is using IE8 and she gets an extra blank image in between each photo. My clients site is: http://www.asajohannesson.se/projekt/

When I click on a photo it says 1 out of 10 images although there are only 5 images.

Every time I try to upload an image it says it fails, but is in fact added and the page needs to be reloaded to show the photo. I'm not sure if this has anythign to do with it?

Can you please help me figure out what is happening and how to fix it? Thanks.
Linda
