Hi Steven,

Welcome!

1) Yes, you can get the large pop up via Thickbox by putting 'thickbox' in Gallery Settings, the "Image link (href) css class" setting.

2) If you're using the Std_Widget layout, that doesn't include the Captions, you could modify it to include captions, but you'd need edit the custom layout ( just add a line break and [caption] to the layout. Here are a couple of tutorials:

http://smashly.net/photosmash-galleries/how-to/create-custom-layouts/

Cheers,

Thanks for creating a great program! I've been working at it a couple of days and the forums have been a great help. I do, however, need a little direction on a couple of items. My issues may lie in the semantics.

1. Is it possible to have the large image pop up in a less than full screen browser?

2. I expected the caption to appear below the thumbnail, but it didn't. Am I missing a setting?

Here's the page I'm currently working on.

Hi EA,

I removed pagination from the extnav Search in the latest version because it didn't retain the search query on page 2.

Is that what you're seeing?

Hi B.,

Vusis' code is good, but you may want to add the # of images to that like:

<?php
echo do_shortcode("[photosmash gallery_type=recent images=25 layout=my_layout]");
?>

Hi Vusis,
FYI to put code in one of those nice little boxes, you can enclose in backticks: `

Not in the sidebar, but in the main section as sort of a rectangular widget (horizontal), if you can picture it. I also want to put it in the footer, kind of like a Flickr feed that some Wordpress sites have.

I'm using Wordpress, if that helps. The site isn't up (I'm still developing it) but I just wanted to get a heads-up before I put it in Wordpress - I'll try that code you've supplied.

Hi Byron,
I use your Photosmash plugin a lot (thanks!) but this time I'm not being able to figure out why it's not working:
I was first trying to get it to work with Thickbox.
The gallery images open in new window.
I tried installing Shadowbox but it also didn't work.
I noticed also that the image rotation on my homepage is not working properly anymore.
I'm thinking there's an incompatibility with Photosmash, because if I disable the PS plugin the rotation works normally.
The dev site is here: http://northstarmontessori.ca.s113547.gridserver.com/photo-gallery
Can you please suggest a fix?

Thank you!
Cintia

where on the home page? if you want to show them in the sidebar then u use a widget. There's an option I think under gallery_type where you should select recent.

if you want to embed it in your template directly then you should use a short code, like this:
'
<?php echo do_shortcode("[photosmash gallery_type=recent ]") ?>
'

I haven't tested that, but I think that's how you do it.

B. Reilly again, this time asking about how you could show the most recent uploaded pictures on a home page. I've read a couple posts on people wanting to show the highest rated photos, but I was wondering what I would either need to take out of their code or add in to their code to show the most recent user uploaded photos.

So, unless I'm doing something wrong.... it doesn't appear that the extnav tags has any results are paginating correctly. It's like once it refreshes to page 2, the query results are lost. Does this make sense that it's happening like this? And since the extnav results use the regular old tag virtual gallery, I don't appear to be able to differentiate how the extnav results come up vs how regular tag results come up. Therefore, I can't paginate one and not the other.

Did that make any sense? :)

Thanks!

Hi Hawaii,

You could create a custom layout that just showed the full size images, and then use the DownloadThemAll FireFox extension ( http://browsers.about.com/od/48/gr/downthemall.htm )

So, you custom layout for showing the large files would be something like:

<div><img src='[image_url]' /></div>

Then it sounds like that FF extension would be able to download all the images on your page. To get all the images in one gallery, you could do a shortcode for a Recent Image Gallery like:

[photosmash gallery_type=recent images=5000 layout='my_big_image_layout']

Hope that helps,

Hi Ron,

Excellent! Glad you were able to get it going.

Another trick you can do when putting things outside of a Post/Page is (if you're doing this directly in your theme's code...won't work in a Widget unless you enable some nasty eval() plugin):

<?php
echo do_shortcode("[psmash_nav layout='my_searchbox_layout']");
?>

So, that's just in case you didn't know about it...very handy in some cases to be able to run a shortcode outside of a post or page.

The logic for the Search Engine is in the bwbps-layout.php file. It's down in the getGalleryImages function and the getSearchSQL function...it is as ugly a piece of code as it is possible to write.

That whole file needs to be rewritten top to bottom. What it does is pretty good (if I can be forgiven for saying so), but the code is not pretty at all.

It already searches: tags, file name, caption, image attribution, and username. So, the thing you'd need to add would be to search your custom fields (which reside in the custom fields table and get joined in the SQL statement at the top of getGalleryImages. That would obviously be a huge benefit to have those searched as well. So, if you get the code together to make that happen, I'd like to add it to the core. Hint, there is an object that contains the list of Custom Fields in the database...you'll need to global the $bwbPS object, then it's $bwbPS->cfList. If you try to put the code together to search those, please test for cases where that object is empty or doesn't contain in custom fields.

I've added a little bit of code to the next version that helps with the search results...now you can show the searched for term with the [nav_search_term] item in the search layout...something like:

<div>
Search for images: [nav_search] [submit name='search']
</div>
[nav_search_term if_before='<h3>Results for: ' if_after='</h3>']

If you do some implementation around the empty search results let me know and I'll see if we can add to core.

Next version is coming out VERY SOON. So, hopefully you won't have to do a lot of rework to upgrade it.

Cheers,
Byron

Hi CS,

Try adding images=30 to your shortcode and see if that fixes.

Cheers,

Hi mosnell,

Thanks for posting back! Glad you found the solution. I assume that people with the theme will be able to access the forum you linked to (it requires a login).

Cheers,

Hi Carl,

PhotoSmash doesn't enable file uploads...I had at one time thought of doing that, but became concerned to allow unrestricted file upload types as I was unsure of the security issues around it. It was more than I wanted to tackle.

I believe that Gravity Forms* allows file uploads and image uploads. I use GF and have begun promoting it because it's worked well for me.

Cheers,
